Isreali helmets are a mix- lots of original US, most with a third bale added for their chinstrap system. Also mixed in are German and Dutch made M1's- hard to say sometimes, but look for the heat code numbers inside the "brim" and US pots are a tad bit heavier. I picked up a Schleuter at a militaria show cheap- ex-Isreali, and a well worn front seam for a "restoration"- only 1 (small) stress crack! neither had the third bale, just replaced chinstraps (which look like coarse British webbing) and liners. I do know that the last runs of M1's in the 1970s and 1980's were made at Sharon Steel in Pennsylvania as they held the rights to the steel used. Most were for export (first hand info from former workers there- unfortunately, they don't know where they went.) The balance were for the US Navy. The last M1 pots were made there in 1984/5. Believe it or not- the steel shells were cast!!!! I have seen the molds. Hope this helps!

Truth be known- the next time I see a deal on a 3 bale, original, complete Isreali (no matter what the provenance) I intend to buy it for my collection- they went to Kevlar too. Seems the steel pots from anywhere will soon be rare.
