It is possible. Although, I have seen M.P. Helmets painted plain white as well.
It appears to be applied and utilized in WWII, as it still retains the original chin straps. Farrell |

I see!
Actualy, I think it must be a MP helmet, or yes, maybe a NAVY one... I think that GI's seldom used white paint for to camouflage their helmets, don't you think so? I didn't see much photos showing such white painted helmets... well, in fact I don't remember any! Thanks a lot for your answers! Phil |

I think they used white parachute material to make white camo helmet covers instead of white paint
they even used white bed sheets to make helmet covers in the field |

Yes, there is a lot of photos showing soldiers with such improvised camouflage, right?
Much more convenient if you think it won't be snowing all winter! I wonder if there is still such helmet, somewhere, in an old ban or farm of Ardennes, waiting for a happy collector Phil |

Indeed they used white paint for camo. On vehicles, and helmets.
I was present when my friend received a helmet from an ETO veteran, that was totaly white. He was regular infantry.(Dont remember his unit) It was brushed on thick, with heavey brush strokes, and it dried thick. He painted his helmet and his liner. If I remember correctly, he was wounded during the campaign, and was sent back, before having to repaint it. Though not so common in Europe, I've seen photographs of such white helmets in the Alaskan campaign. Farrell |

Origin & background is important to judge this. As seen on these web pages: www.usmarshals.gov/history/index.html & www.usmarshals.gov/histor...1967a.htm, during the 1960's, U.S. Marshals pressed some hastily repainted white helmets into service. Various U.S. police departments also utilized surplus military gear, including steel helmets, sometimes after repainting it.
